The Southern Arizona Family and Perinatal Provider Directory

Growing a family comes with a surprising amount of logistics: choosing prenatal care, picking where to deliver, finding a pediatrician, and knowing where to go at 3am when a fever spikes. The information exists, but it is scattered across dozens of health-system websites and half-remembered group chats. This page puts the whole map in one place.

It is maintained by the clinical team at Barrio Babies, Tucson's nurse-practitioner-led breastfeeding medicine clinic, part of Barrio Healthcare. We work alongside pediatricians, obstetricians, midwives, and hospital teams every day, and we want every local family connected to great care. Expecting? Start with our step-by-step roadmap, You're Pregnant, What Now?

If you think your child is having an emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. This page is a map, not medical advice.

Contact details verified July 2026 Free listings, never paid for Alphabetical, no rankings 121 verified listings across six categories

Contact details verified July 2026; please call ahead to confirm. Every phone number and website below was checked against the organization's own published information in July 2026, but details change often.

  • What changes: addresses, phones, insurance participation, and even hospital service lines.
  • How listings work: alphabetical within each area, free, and never paid for. We do not rank providers, hospitals, or birth settings, and inclusion is not a referral or an endorsement. This directory is a community resource to help you start your search.
  • FQHC: community health centers are marked FQHC; they see families regardless of insurance status and offer sliding-scale fees.
  • See something out of date? Let us know and we will fix it, usually within a week.

Where Barrio Babies fits. Barrio Babies provides the prenatal and newborn feeding and lactation piece of this map, and we are happy to coordinate with any provider listed here; we routinely send visit notes to pediatricians, OBs, and midwives so everyone stays on the same page. Expecting? See our roadmap, You're Pregnant, What Now?, or learn about a third-trimester prenatal feeding consult. Barrio Babies appears exactly once in the listings below, in the feeding and tongue-tie section, clearly marked as this directory's maintainer.

Pediatricians and pediatric practices

Well checks, vaccines, growth tracking, and sick visits. Choose a pediatrician by 32 to 36 weeks of pregnancy if you can; most practices welcome a free prenatal meet-and-greet, and your baby's first checkup happens 3 to 5 days after birth. Practices are grouped by area and listed alphabetically.

Hospitals, NICUs, and labor and delivery

Your prenatal practice usually determines where you deliver, so ask about hospital affiliation at the first call. Facilities are grouped by area and listed alphabetically. NICU descriptions follow what each hospital publishes.

The Southern Arizona landscape, in plain terms

  • Southern Arizona has two dedicated pediatric emergency departments, both in Tucson: TMC for Children and the Banner Children's ER at Diamond Children's Medical Center.
  • The Tucson metro has three NICUs at Level II or higher (Tucson Medical Center, Banner University Medical Center Tucson, Carondelet St. Joseph's) plus a special care nursery at Northwest Medical Center.
  • There is currently no freestanding birth center operating in Tucson. The long-running Birth and Women's Health Center moved into Tucson Medical Center in 2019 and operates as The Midwifery Center at TMC.
  • Green Valley has no hospital; the nearest hospital ER for Green Valley and Sahuarita is Northwest Medical Center Sahuarita. Santa Cruz Valley Regional Hospital closed permanently in 2022.
  • Outside Tucson, labor and delivery is available in Sierra Vista, Nogales, Safford, and Casa Grande. There is no labor and delivery in Bisbee, Benson, Willcox, Oro Valley, or Sahuarita, and childbirth services at Northwest Medical Center Houghton remain suspended.

OB/GYN and prenatal care practices

Choosing prenatal care is usually the first care-team decision, and your practice determines where you deliver, so ask about hospital affiliation at the first call. AHCCCS covers pregnancy for many Arizonans, and FQHC-marked practices welcome families regardless of insurance status. Worth asking up front: are you accepting new OB patients and how far along do you book, which hospital do you deliver at, who covers delivery if my doctor is off, and are there midwives in the practice?

Midwives and birth settings

We list every option with the same care and rank none of them; birth setting is a decision for you and your prenatal team. The letters, plainly: a certified nurse-midwife (CNM) is a registered nurse with graduate midwifery training, and in Southern Arizona CNMs currently attend births in hospitals. A licensed midwife (LM), often also a certified professional midwife (CPM), is licensed by the State of Arizona to attend planned home births.

The birth center question, answered honestly: no freestanding birth center currently operates in Tucson. The long-running Birth and Women's Health Center closed as a freestanding birth center in 2019 and continues as The Midwifery Center at TMC, whose clinic office remains at 5979 E Grant Rd Ste 107.

Midwives and lactation support go way back. If feeding needs medical care, that is the Barrio Babies lane; we are glad to work alongside any midwife or practice on this page. Expecting? A prenatal feeding consult means day one is not day zero, and our roadmap You're Pregnant, What Now? walks every step.

About this directory

This directory is a free community resource from Barrio Babies, part of Barrio Healthcare.

  • How listings work: inclusion is not a medical referral or endorsement, no listing is paid, and we do not rank providers, hospitals, or birth settings. Barrio Babies itself appears once, in the feeding and tongue-tie section, clearly marked as the directory's maintainer.
  • Verification: contact details were verified against each organization's own published information in July 2026, but addresses, phone numbers, insurance participation, providers, and even hospital service lines change often; always confirm details directly with the practice or facility.
  • What this page is: general education, not medical advice. If you are worried about your baby, call your pediatrician. For emergencies, call 911.
  • See something out of date, or want a practice added? Contact us; listings are free and corrections usually post within a week.

Feeding should not hurt, and you should not have to figure it out alone.

Barrio Babies is Tucson's nurse-practitioner-led breastfeeding medicine clinic. Painful latch, slow weight gain, low supply, tongue-tie questions, pumping plans: these are medical problems with medical answers, and they are what we treat every day. No referral needed, and we coordinate with any provider in this directory.
