Low Milk Supply · Tucson
Not sure you’re making enough? Let’s find out for certain.
Perceived low supply is one of the most common and most misunderstood reasons feeding feels like it’s failing. We measure what’s actually happening, find the cause, and build a plan that protects your supply and your sanity.

What can be behind it
- Transfer problems: baby isn’t removing milk efficiently, often because of latch, tone, or a functional restriction
- True under-production: hormonal, glandular, retained placenta, thyroid, or medication factors
- Scheduling and stimulation: feeding or pumping patterns that under-signal your body
- Perceived low supply: normal infant behavior misread as hunger or shortage
How we evaluate and help
- A feeding observation and a weighted feed to measure exactly how much milk baby transfers
- Medical review of the factors that affect production, with labs when indicated
- A latch and positioning assessment, and a check for pain or other barriers
- A clear, sustainable plan that protects your supply, with a realistic exit from any short-term measures
Questions parents ask us
How can you tell if my supply is really low?
We measure it. A weighted feed shows how much milk your baby actually takes, and a medical review identifies whether production or transfer is the issue.
Will I have to stop breastfeeding?
Usually not. Most causes are addressable, and if supplementing is needed for a time, we’ll build a plan to protect breastfeeding alongside it.
Is the visit covered by insurance?
Often, yes. We’re in-network with most major commercial plans, AHCCCS, and TRICARE. Because we often see families quickly, sometimes the same day or the next morning, and we offer Saturday visits, we can’t always confirm benefits before your visit, and we never let that delay care. These are medical visits, so your plan may apply a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We’ll help you understand your coverage, and final benefit details are ultimately between you and your plan.
