Barrio Babies is breastfeeding medicine for mom and baby, led by nurse practitioners and IBCLC lactation experts. These are medical visits for feeding and lactation problems: we see you together, give the visit the time it needs, and look for the real cause instead of treating the symptom.

When feeding isn’t working, the input piles up: well-meaning but often misinformed, and frequently contradictory. You can spend days spinning your wheels trying to make sense of it all while your baby struggles and the pain persists. We do a real medical evaluation of both of you, tell you plainly what’s actually going on, and build a plan around your goals, whether that’s exclusive breastfeeding, combination feeding, or pumping.

We provide a full range of medical treatments and therapies for feeding and lactation problems. We just won’t reach for a procedure you don’t need. With tongue-tie, for example, plenty of babies get released who never needed it: we look at the whole feeding picture first, use a precise, minimally invasive frenotomy rather than a laser when a release is truly indicated, and we will often tell you it isn’t necessary and treat the real issue instead. Either way, you leave with care and a straight answer.

Most insurance accepted, and care that never waits on it.
These are medical visits for feeding and lactation problems, so depending on your plan they may apply a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We’re in-network with most major commercial plans, AHCCCS, and TRICARE. Because we often see families quickly, sometimes the same day or the next morning, and we offer Saturday visits, we can’t always check benefits ahead of time, and we never delay care to do it. One thing to know: because newborns are often seen before they’re added to a parent’s policy, your baby’s coverage can depend on timing. We’ll walk you through exactly how that works. Do I need a referral?
No referral is needed to schedule. If your plan requires one, we’ll let you know.
Will my insurance cover the visit?
Many plans cover these visits. We’re in-network with most major commercial plans, AHCCCS, and TRICARE. We don’t promise coverage in advance, and because we often see families the same day or next morning, we can’t always check benefits first. Because these are medical visits, your plan may apply a copay, coinsurance, or deductible, and we’ll help you understand any expected cost.

We evaluate carefully, and when a release is truly indicated we perform a precise, minimally invasive frenotomy. Just as often we find a release isn’t needed and address the real cause instead.
Can you see my baby and me in the same visit?
Yes, that’s our model. Breastfeeding is a team sport, so you and your baby are each our patient, each with your own exam, diagnosis, and treatment, woven into one shared plan in a single coordinated visit.
Do you offer visits in Spanish?
Yes. We have Spanish-speaking providers and staff. Just let us know your preference when you schedule.
